Museum Branding Design: to celebrate a centenary

Updated: Dec 8, 2022

Celebrating 100 years of the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum

This year marks the centenary of the formal opening of the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, a unique home where an extraordinary Victorian couple gathered fantastic art and objects from world cultures and then gave it to Bournemouth for their education and enlightenment.

Museum branding design: the brief

Goldust Design was comissioned to create an anniversary edition of the existing logo, along with posters and social media graphics to be used during the museum's 100th year.

Museum branding design: what we did

The original poster created by Arthur Bell for the opening in 1922 provided inspiration.

The logo: We modified the logo adding centenary dates and created a sketch of the iconic building to use in combination with it. Choosing a four colour gold for a celebratory feel.

The poster: We reworked the original poster, cropping to fit an A4 page and recreating it as a vector so the colours could be adjusted and extra background added to make space for text.

Social media: A selection of square assets were created for Instagram, along with banners for Facebook and Twitter. We explored a monochrome version of the poster image and threw in a few stars for fun.

The Russell-Cotes Arts Gallery & Museum is a victorian villa overlooking the sea, known as Bournemouth's 'cultural gem', and is well worth a visit.
